(EDC), in Newton, Massachusetts, in conjunction with the Golden Key National Honor Society (Golden Key) in Atlanta, Georgia.
National Social Norms Research Center
The NSNRC is an independent center that supports, promotes and provides technical assistance in the application of the social norms approach to a broad range of health, safety and social justice issues, including alcohol-related risk-reduction and the prevention of tobacco abuse. It is the only national center devoted exclusively to the understanding and use of the social norms approach.
Reality Check
One of the most difficult parenting responsibilities is communicating with teens about drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and sex. Some adults may be communicating ineffectively by using an extremely authoritative tone and lecturing on the subjects. Others may feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or frustrated and fail to discuss the subjects with their teens altogether. Neither one of these options is healthy for teens.
Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies that reduce negative consequences of drug use, incorporating a spectrum of strategies from safer use, to managed use to abstinence.
